Flu and Allergy Season Rescue Tea

Submitted by sophiesworld on Fri, 10/27/2006 - 12:42am.

Everything has a purpose! Lemon dries up mucus, honey soothes the throat, cayenne helps headaches and body aches and pains and helps bring down fever, mint helps clear nasal passages and is very relaxing, the white tea has low does of caffiene which helps asthma and the white tea it's self is a useful antioxidant.

In the boiling water steep tea for 5-10 minutes. Stir in honey, lemon and cayenne. If you add a little too much cayenne, you can balance it with a little more honey.

Sangria

Submitted by IGGY on Wed, 06/07/2006 - 3:26pm.

Have the fruit, brandy, wine and orange juice well chilled. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass/ceramic pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to develop the flavors (stir occasionally to dissolve sugar).

When ready to serve, crush the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Adjust sweetness to taste.

I changed the rum to brandy because we did a comparison and found the brandy made for a better tasting sangria. This recipe used to be on my favorite site (allrecipes.com) , but they removed it, as they do with other recipes. Just make sure you copy or print them out when you see them!!

Lemonaid

Submitted by stella bella on Sat, 06/03/2006 - 12:43am.

Here's what you do:
*for the sugar syrup*
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 2 c. sugar (I use florida crystals or evaporated cane juice)w/ 2 c. water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer for 10 mins. Remove from heat and let cool.
Keep any unused syrup in fridge in a covered container. It will keep for a long time.
Makes 2 1/2 c.

*for the lemonaid*
Combine 1 1/2 c. lemon juice, 1/2 c. sugar syrup, and 3 c. water. It's really sour, so you might want to add more water or syrup (My dh said more syrup, my kids said it was fine)

Repeat the same recipe and add it to an ice cube tray. Use these ice cubes in the lemonaid.

Delish!

The long prep time above takes into account the chilling of the simple syrup. If you have some in the fridge, it only takes a minute to whip up a pitcher.

lazy sangria

Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 08/01/2005 - 6:15pm.

I concocted this accidentally trying to use up a bottle of red wine.
Dump the wine into a big container. Add the frozen fruit juice concetrate. Add some water to taste (you don't want it to be too sweet) Cut up the fruit (leave the peels on) and dump them in. Some people advise to add the fruit at the end before serving, but personally, I like it when the fruit soaks up the booze - drunken goodness!
