Abundance, my merry christmas/happy new year photodump

33 weeks 4 days belly (33 weeks 4 days)
That should be enough said...
But wait there's so much more!

This is the produce we harvested from the garden on new year's eve. There's more where that came from! Gotta love a meditteranean climate. We'll be planting peas and fava beans in early february (um if the pregnancy allows).

This is the mother of all toaster ovens that we got from my inlaws for christmas.
mother of all toaster ovens (it's little, but it seriously works like a real oven!)
This is the fabled and quickly disappearing carob cornnut cake experiment, which turned out to be a mfing delicious no sugar brownie.
carrob cornnut bread
And, apparently, carob cornnut bread makes for a happy good morning- because i used it to wake dh up at 9 oclock, and he didn't even grump. Then he agreed to finally take me to the flea market near the coast where we bought all this:

and here's a bonus cutey of my fur first baby checking out the bassinet.

And my brother in law gave us this bedroom set for our guest bedroom, because he didn't like it! It's a family heirloom- makes me feel like landed gentry to have a stately set like this. We've got it in the baby's room until he's old enough to need a room and we've got the guest bedroom set up.

and yesterday when i was wigging on the idea that we needed to buy a mattress for the bed and how much that would set us back- I went to the 2nd hand store to check prices and i found this good condition mattress waiting for us on the curb only 2 blocks away from home. The dumpster will provide!
And my other brother and sister in law gave me all the baby clothes she has stored in her garage, which i sorted through and organized.
free baby clothes bonanza
Looks like we are all set for baby clothes- except for those cheap basics like onesies, t-shirts and socks after 6 months.
I know christmas isn't about stuff, and i wish i wasn't such a materialist, but it makes me SO freaking happy to think about having all this stuff and how LUCKY I am to be able to get it all free or so freaking cheap.

is that.... no it's not.... can it be?

um, a CAST IRON dutch oven??

i'm drooling. do you know i scrounge antique shops for cast iron almost every week? i NEED one of those so fricking bad!

oh but yeah, post about you.... look at all your cool stuff! and it's old, the best kind! except the vegetables, but that's a good thing. i had old vegetables for lunch today and the guy i work three feet from did not appreciate that.

i really do love that furniture. awesome score.

I don't think it is

a dutch oven, because the lid that came with it is glass. SO i think it's just a kick ass cast iron pan. I know what you mean about searching for one, because before we got the mother of all toaster ovens i wanted one to try baking in the wood stove. I saw one at the flea market but it was completely rusted and i don't know how to restore something like that so I didn't snap it up.

restoring

is relatively simple, but hard work. you hit it with soap-free steel wool water for as long as it takes to get the rust off, wiping with paper towels as you go. could take over an hour, i had a pan that was a few hours. then you just reseason it, which means you heat it gently to make certain all water is evaporated and then pour oil in the pan all the way to the brim, and coat teh outside with oil. return it to the 250 degree oven and let it bake there for a while, then pour out the oil, wipe it down again with paper towels and put it back in the oven for another ??i usually forget about it for over an hour.

that is really still a cool pan. i would take it. all i'm finding are skillets. i want muffin pans, stock pot/dutch oven, saucepans, i want all of them but they're hard to find here, or they're as expensive as new all-clad stainless steel.

anyway, enough about the pan. take care.

I think you are feeling happy and peaceful about your baby, your marriage, and your home. Forget materialism, you are feeling great about the abundance in your life, and that's a good thing! I love all the pieces, especially the bassinet and the bed. Lovely!
