writing mamas part deux

I see that there are some other frustrated writers here. What can we do to help and encourage each other?

We could interview each other. Answering somebody else's questions is one good way to eradicate the syndrome of the intimidating blank page that haunts you in a bout of writers block...gives you a place to start...

Mamaphonic is a sister site to hipmama specifically for mamas creative in writing, film making, music, etc. It is awesome! I am an infrequent poster but there is a solid group of regular posters, mostly writing mamas, who have been published in everything from tiny zines to mainstream mags to books. One of the regular exercises we do is this thing called 300 days, where you just aim for writing 300 words in your entry. Every month a new 300 days is started. You can write as much or as little as you want. New voices are always welcome, come on over Smiling

She and I decided to keep it limited to four friends, since we're really thin-skinned about having our fiction projects critiqued. But it's been great. First, it forces me to get things done by a certain time (I've been focusing on writing short stories), and then it helps to have three other sets of eyes giving me helpful suggestions, etc.

Maybe we could start a writing mamas thread on HM? Where we bounce ideas off of each other for how to get motivated/stay focused or ask questions?

I love that you ended your post with a Thompson quote!

Perhaps an outlet for some writing? Maybe a place to send some journaling-type exercises relating to momhood...?

that everyone could use. I have a few books/resources that I'd be willing to pull from. We wouldn't necessarily have to post the writing here, but if people wanted to they could. Anybody up for that?

I like this idea. And some kind of accountability/deadline factor would be nice sometimes...although I don't think I'd be able to meet them, ever, at this point in my life. Sticking out tongue So much on my plate right now. But yes, the exercises would be helpful to just keep the skills from getting too rusty.

about submitting a piece to that gonzo parenting rag. Or, maybe, it would be a better idea to submit writing to hipMama proper. Whatever--the point is to get the ball rolling. Any other ideas? Any other challenges we could give each other?
