these posts!
I have 1 tatt, but I could't get the pic to come up... you're not missing much - it's very simple. An infinity symbol on my forearm.
I'm waiting until baby #2 is done cooking and weaned to get my next tattoo... not 100% sure what it will be of yet. I like the idea of getting something for my children or representing motherhood in some way. I also really love the idea of a lotus flower on mu upper back.

here's the most recent one of my right arm-only now, just below the roses there is a band of type that says "broken hearts hurt but they make us strong"
Photobucket
Here's the most recent of my left, though a lot is missing in this picture. It's a half sleeve devoted to the little prince
I also have a beer logo tattooed on my left ribs-any one who's been on here long enough to know me knows which beer it is

I remember meeting you in person and thinking how original and beautiful of an idea it was and how beautiful your tats looked. I have yet to read the book, which is odd because I've owned a vintage copy for about 20 years (I think I *borrowed it from my man's sister come to think of it?)

Submitted by dynamom on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 11:56am.

You can see my star here, on my right arm. I'd love to get some more work on this arm and get this started into a bit of a sleeve but not sure what I'd like to put around it.
Photobucket

And dh's star on his left. These were kind of our engagement rings in a way. And wow he looks a lot different than he did a few years ago in that above pic!
Photobucket

And of course the one I got last year that huck designed, me and my kids. We're thinking for Z, not knowing if he'll stay or not but still wanting to include him, he'll be something a little different. Perhaps a pinwheel in little girl's hand. Another wow, this is when the tattoo was like a day old, the colors are so intense!

I really need tatoo help. I posted these in hopes that someone out there knows what to do with these. This past winter I finally decided I cannot live with these as they are - I need to do something. But what? I'm willing to expand/cover up etc.. but it's gonna take a ton of work I fear. In case any of you are artists (huck?) I like hindu, greek and norse mythology . . .and of course birds.

Photobucket
This is a cover up of two tats I got over ten years ago. Hence the "hunchback" look. Blech.

Photobucket
I'm ok with this one except for the crappy quality.

Photobucket
I got this wreath on my ankle when I was 16. It cost $25. I had it redone a few years later - added the black border - because the color was spreading so much. I hate it.

Submitted by Catmama on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 3:26am.

tat artists who are really good with cover ups. Cover ups in themselves are a whole separate specialty. What I would suggest is finding one, meeting with him/her and if their portfolio proves (before and after photos) them worthy I would leave a deposit and have them start drawing up a sketch.
I would start with the Raven. It looks to be the biggest challenge. The other two look fairly easy to change and/or revise. I like the little bird on the branch a lot. AMybe color? Bluebird of happiness?

Submitted by Wildraven on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 12:05pm.

The problem is, where in the pine tree state am I gonna find anyone! The guy who did my raven (10 years ago) was the best artist in Maine at the time. Eeek!!!

Submitted by mommymash on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 3:42pm.

come down our way into southern NH-- we've got tattoo places scattered around like dunkin' donuts!! i think tattoo and piercing art is still illegal in MA so there are a *ton* of tattoo artists just over the border in NH. i bet you could find someone who specializes in in cover-ups, no problem.

Submitted by meeshel on Mon, 08/25/2008 - 6:24pm.

and if wildraven wants to hike this far, I could connect you with my artist if you want to turn one into a big piece. there a few good ones scattered throughout the state - I could look into it for you.

I wish I could remember exactly where but there is a tattoo shop in or very near booth bay harbor, near the resale/thrift shop. We passed it a bunch of times. I didn't get a chance to stop in but I meant to because I'm getting inked soon. But a young lady working at one of the lobster places had very nice high quality tattoos and she told me that's where she got hers done.

Nothing came up for booth bay so it could be the place is very new, but this page came up with links to some other places in Maine:

There's this place in Portland:
http://www.sanctuarytattoo.com/

Oooooh this place does piercing and tatoos:
http://www.alteredimagetattoo.com/

but yeah, a bunch of places up and down Maine came up when I googled 'booth bay harbor tattoos'. Hope you find somebody!

back tat

embroidery scissors with a spool of thread. The thread says "armor" on the label and my best friend has the same tat.

front tat

dragonfly-lady-griffin. based on a piece of jewelery made for sarah bernhardt in the late 19th century.

I have three others but am too lazy to photo/post them. also I don't own a digital camera so these are crappy cell phone pictures.

Of course you are aware in the Torah you are not allowed to tattoo ones body (even pierce for that matter)

Submitted by mommymash on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 2:17am.

we're not actually jewish! but now i'm wondering, would it be considered disrespectful for me to get that tat??

Submitted by crockmama on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 4:50pm.

my MiL is a very observant jew and she has a tattoo, she just has to get it removed before she can be buried in a jewish cemetery. i also have several jewish in-laws who have hebrew tats. so, there ya go.

Submitted by Catmama on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 8:36pm.

*devotion* to the faith. You know you won't see any tats walking down La Brea and 3rd.

Getting her tat removed before burial? She knows when she's dying? WOW.

Submitted by crockmama on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 9:32pm.

we're friends with an orthodox couple, they live in the labrea district, and are sporting tats of their children's names in hebrew under their wig & tzitzis. you'd never know it, but they're there.

as far as my MIL's tat removal goes, she says you can pre-arrange for the undertaker to do it just before your burial. no embalming, no nails in the coffin, but tat removal for sure. all that for a stupid yin-yang symbol!

Submitted by Catmama on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 9:37pm.

HA!
At least she won't have to feel the pain of removal.

Submitted by Catmama on Sun, 08/24/2008 - 2:29am.

Seeing how it's a distinct religion that forbids tats.....I'm not sure? Hitler managed to comepletely fuck with them by tattooing that's for sure. At the same time many people have chinese, latin, Indian,......words and meanings on their bodies.
