Question for mamas who have worked with tattoo artists

Submitted by Catmama on Sun, 08/17/2008 - 5:01pm.

While coming up with an original tat, is it obnoxious to ask for changes to be made on thier original sketch? I don;t want to be a pain in the ass, but at the same time.....
it's going on my body 24/7.

I'm starting a 1/2 sleeve and I love what he's drawn up, but would like to see a few differnt approaches to the position of the koi.

Am I a pain in the ass?

It's really hard to describe something in your imagination to another human being. The first drawing is just what he heard/saw from you the first time, and then you keep whittling it down until it's right. I think if you sent it back four times, that might be slightly obnoxious, but once is not a problem at all. I can't wait to see it!

to add to the chorus : a) you're paying, b)its Your body. I would be really offended if the artist was offended!

It's just a tad nerve racking going for the big piece and commiting. My other stuff, while not exactly small small, were brought in by me so the artist just pretty much copied my artwprk. This new piece is evolving from an idea/concept of a koi, lotus flower and water. While there are a million inked koi's out there, I'm not doing flash off the wall. I can PM you the drawing so far, but don;t want to post his artwork since this is a public board. Thing is I'm happy with his drawing, just want to see the positioning a different way. He's the nicest guy, I cannot imagine him being offended, but always second guess myself.

I generally try not to respond if someone else has already said the same thing, but in this case...

It's YOUR body, lady! If you want them to put something your kid drew on your body, that's your prerogative. He will NOT be offended if you ask him to change something he drew, and if he is, maybe you should find another artist. There's no room for close-mindedness when it comes to something like this, you know? You do what you want!

This is something that will be on your body for the rest of your life! of course you should ask for a redraw. I mean, you're paying this person, right? It's their job! Duder should want you to want it perfect, if he doesn't he wouldn't be a really great artist. tattoo design and placement is definitely not something to demure about, demand the perfect placement and design for your body!

also, you should post pics when it's done!

tell them exactly how you want it and ask for them to make changes as much as possible. My artist always says that it is my body and I'm going to live with it forever so I need to be sure that it is exactly how I want it. A good artist will make it look exactly how you want it to look. You are the customer and you are giving them money (lots of it too) so you should be completely satisfied.

Please do not think you are being a pain in the ass. And post pictures.
