hello my name is christy and i'm a dragon - mars hospital stay and the rest is history! your 10 on tues.

Submitted by dragon chic on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 6:01am.

hi!

this weekend was a whirlwind, i'm alive and strong, and my heart is beating widly. this is what i have for you.

1. the skinny - mars is allergic to insect bites, this year has been fullforce. she got bit by a mosquito and a spider, she ended up with cellulitus and was kept over night at swedish. scott and i stayed with her the whole time, we spent the night in her room and switched on/off when needed. she was pumped with antibiotics and they insisted that she might have MRSA. she didn't - no staph at all.

2. this ordeal with taxing, it's taken me several days to jump back from it, i'm almost there.

3. scott was great, we were able to laugh at old jokes and communicated well throughout the ordeal. we needed him there, thank you scott.

4. friends are family - thank to you everyone who had my back on this one. phone calls, VM's, myspace messages, everyone represented for mars.

5. mars is a solider like her mother. barely cried, and took the catheter like a champ. it was hard to watch her go through this, she's only 7 and neither of the kids had done a hospital stay prior to this.

6. the food - pretty good. mars ate free, and everything else was a $1.75 a pop! it took 45 minutes for them to bring it up, we made sure to order early!

7. the staff - excellent, several docs and nurses. boy has the medical industry stepped up it's "customer service", or what? we've come a long way from the surgeon chain smoking in the operating room with feathered hair, plaid bell bottoms and a tan turtle neck AND too much cologne circa 1970!!!

8. the decision - they tried to get bring up her staying an extra night, someone joked that they sometimes make people stay a week! not the case. i broke it down big time! i told them that i was single mother with an $8,000.00 deductible. whatever was necessary for mars, i would consent too, hands down. whatever wasn't, we needed to consider another option. they listened.

9. row machine! i'm murdering this bitch! i love to row my ass off - it helped me big time this weekend.

10. the send off - she was discharged on sunday mid-afternoon. in my opinion they over medicated, used the possible MRSA as justification, but none the less the two antibiotics they gave her worked. she's 100% better.

11. i was challenged and put to the test. i am offically the woman who can handle emergency medical situations. thank you universe, point taken loud and clear!

thank you for reading this, and most of all for believing in me.

your personal green goddess - DC

p.s. mars now refers to herself as "BDC" - a.k.a. baby dragon chic!

ladies,

especially: shades, love, ex, yogi, geek, grad, turt, pec, bitch, dahl, mommy, biker, c06 and urban!

your words, support, kindness, helpful tips and overall love for mars helped me pull through this week. i gotta admit that i'm still feeling quite taxed from this situation, i'm hoping to catch up on the weekend!

skye comes home for a visit tomorrow, this will be his first dry run since his kindey stone incident.

i'm drinking coffee, about to post a new 10 list and vaccum. life is good, i keep moving foward.

most importantly, mars is healthy and 100% better.

i've been giving her acidopholis capsules (sprinkling them into her drinks) to help with the yeast and to rebuild her immune system.

thank you for covering every base possible, i needed your help.

Glad Mars didn't have MRSA, that shit is scary!!! I don't blame the hospital for being cautious, there have been a lot of those lately (my pseudo-sil has it right now).

Good for you pulling through, standing up for your girl!

It's nice to know than when the shit hits the fan you can handle it, that's a peaceful feeling. I am glad she's okay now! That had to have been so scary for you guys *hugs*

Oh wow, what an ordeal. You glided through it beautifully. Your love and strength are so evident. I'm happy bd was cool, too. You daughter sounds like a strong little girl.

Please, go to the health food store and buy BDC some probiotics. They will help her body heal from all the antibiotics she just had that stripped her of her healthy bacteria. You can find candy like tablets or powder to mix into a fruit drink or something akin.

Love to you, DC. You are one rockin cool lady.

OMG DC, I'm so glad that BDC is fine now! What an awful time and how scary. Good for you and her for handling it and staying calm. You rock mama and so does your baby! Wonder where she gets it....... Eye-wink

This was harrowing for you, I know. So glad it is over and Mars is getting back to health. Gotta take care of you too, mama. All the stress can really take it out of you and I'll be vibing you both today with lots of good stuff.

I'm really proud of you for getting to this place with the ex. I'm not in a place where I could do this with my FAX and I respect you so much for just letting go of the past and all the old bullshit and enabling this guy to do the right things for his kids.

Hi DC! Glad your BDC survived, what a tough girl! I'm glad you made it through okay as well, I know it must have been scary and hard at times- new territory! You are a good mama, I'm sending you lots of love. xoxo

I am so glad you are all okay. How scary for you all.
DC & BDC ROCK!

Submitted by thatmama on Wed, 07/30/2008 - 8:52am.

I had no idea -- how scary for you guys! Mars is a little trouper -- wow, a catheter! I had one after the C section, wow...totally brutal, especially for a little girl. This girl earned her tough badge! She is rock solid -- BDC rules!

I'm glad you laid it out for the hospital folks -- there is a point when being in the hospital is necessary/helpful (ie, you need the care/medication) and there is a point when it is easier/nicer to be at home. You called the shots on this (did I ever mention that you are my personal hero? Shit girl, that cape is awesome!)

what's MRSA?

sending some love/vibes/healing to little Mars...

I'm so bad with spider bites. This works for me:
black tea bag (like, make some tea, and then use the bag). NOT herbal tea, nothin' fancy, just Lipton's. Put the wet, warm (but not hot) bag on the bite. Leave it till it either gets dry, or you get sick of wearing it. Do it again later in the day.
The tannins in the tea draw out the venom. I've heard toothpaste works, too (although it never worked for me).
I dunno, you might have a bigger thing there. Just a thought.

WOW! I had no idea all of this was going on for you and Mars. I'm so glad that everything worked out and you are now much stronger for the experience. I'm glad she is okay and you are too.
Row machines are way fun. My parents have a "Gazelle" and OMFG I want one so bad. They are so much fun!
Cool that the hospital listened to you. You have to make yourself heard in there or you will get walked on. Good for you! I'm proud of you DC! "Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we're here we might as well dance".- Maya Angelou

i can't wait to hear about your good news! i'm about to pop over to it in a minute!

i'm wishing you and matt all the love in my heart!

i love the gazelle, i've seen it advertised for years, i know it's a good work out!

your parents are lucky to have one in their home! this is a treat!

i really appreciate your mars support, this was so tricky, and i had to channel love to myself the whole time.

i focused on light surrounding us and the docs, it was enough to pull us all together for her.

i'm thinking of you and the kids lady!

forever - your friend,
