Dee peed on her potty today for the first time! Any mama would be proud of this accomplishment in their 2+ year old. And I am, very. The weird part is we didn't teach her to do this. Not directly anyway. We bought her a potty but all she's done for the last 2 months since we got it is Sure we've talked about mama going potty, and daddy going potty and diapers and such and I've noticed she's becoming more aware of when she has to go but we haven't made a big deal about it or anything. So colour me surprised when, after her bath this evening she said she wanted her potty. We went and found it in the living room where she proceeded to enact the scenario in C (above) and bring it into my bedroom where I sat on the bed and asked her if she needed to potty. She nodded her head in the affirmative then sat there for awhile. After a minute or so she grunted a little then said "more potty?" I said "sure, you can potty more", thinking this was one of our "pretend" games. Imagine my surprise when she indicated she was done then went to waddle off with the potty and I heard SPLASHING! She really went! It was so exciting! She then shoved her hand in the bucket and yelled "water!". I had to explain that we don't put our hands in our pee, we flush it down the toilet. I felt amazed. excited, proud and profoundly mommy when blurting out "papa! Look, she peed!" as we trotted off to the toilet to flush. Dee and I went through how to dump the bucket and wipe and flush and all that. Imagine the pride pouring from my heart as the pee hit the toilet and splashed me in the face. I smiled, nothing was going to take my joy man, nothing. My daughter just taught herself how to pee! This is my favorite part of your story! We also bought a plastic potty recently and every time I open it up the fledgling yells "SHUT" and slams the top down. OK. So I wasn't pushing the subject, but then she started trying to sit on the big toilet - and yes, now, starting just last week, she's peeing in it!!!! So I totally feel your amazement and pride. I'm right there with you. Pee party at my place! (byop) kids are totally awesome. They are all so different and amazing. It's like getting a christmas present everyday. Sometimes the box contains a 20 pound fruit cake from aunt Norah and sometimes it's a diamond ring but it's never the same and it's always interesting. BTW, I just wanted to say I miss ya and think about you often, sorry I'm such a lurker but I'm sure you understand why! lm

Kennedy Every day I'm faced with the fact that even 3 years ago the amount of shit, piss, vomit, blood, spitup and various other substances I scrape, wipe and hose off my body would have been utterly unthinkable and nearly unbearable. And yet I usually do it with a look of amusement on my face, if not a smile. Moms RULE!

Congrats to your big daughter! And I know your feeling. It was the same with me, when Malin declared she didn't want a diaper any longer. They grow so fast... that's so awesome! children are amazing. mecah started going when she was 15 months and as a parent of a self-potty trainer, you can't help but be just a little bit proud!! yay, dee! and, for you, too, mama!!
