House woes and I guess I should not complain

Submitted by wifemotherslave on Mon, 06/09/2008 - 1:22pm.

Hey ladies. I picked out replacement flooring last week, but they would only pay for replacement linoleum (sp). And since it was so old each room was priced differently. I managed to finagle them to put the nicest stuff in the kitchen and the cheaper in the back room. They won't pay for any of the carpet, only to clean it. But we did discover beautiful old hardwood in the living room, and it does not need to be refinshed...well so far what we have seen of it. So we will be tossing the LR carpet. They will paint the bedroom and the kitchen, so I am picking out colors for those rooms. The cabinets did not sustain enough damage for them to be replaced...says them! And at this point I am so tired I don't have fight left in me. I figure at least the floors will be mine and my dirt so that is a comforting feeling. And even though I know some of you ladies liked the tomato red soup kitchen it will become a nice yellow to match the gray and greenish flooring and my new bee theme. Right now we are fighting to get them to replace the furnace and hot water heater, which they think are fixable, but were so water logged we feel they need to be replaced. INSURANCE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING ASSHOLES! Our contractor was nice until we signed on with him thru the insurance company, now he won't even return our calls. I guess this is just the way of the world. I may be calling the channel 6 news again really soon. Anyways thanks for letting me vent ladies. Your support has meant the world to me. WMS

We had kind of similar problems when our house was burglarized several years back. I do think it is their MO to fight back to save money, knowing that the average person will throw up their arms and give up. So fight as much as you can!

Hardwood floors rock, your place is going to be beautiful and all yours very, very soon.

pulled up my carpet at my old place. Yuck. I think half of Ocean Beach was under there. I have wood floors and oriental rugs here. Love it, love it, love it.
If you want to replace some carpet, though, see if you can find remnants that fit the room. Cheaper.

Also, just got a new water heater here. The insulation was wet (amongst other problems)--and that makes it a SAFETY issue. See if you can find some info on the web about it (think mold), and use that when talking to your insurance co.

...for new furnace & hot water heater!!!

Insurance people...arrrgggghh. Really quite nightmarish. I don't know how they sleep at night, the poor things.

I'm glad about the hardwood floor under the carpet though! That's excellent. Best thing about the 60s and 70s - that the fashion was to put in wall to wall carpet and left the hard wood floor under there all nice and beautiful for us now. That happened in our house too.

So happy to hear that things are coming together, if not exactly as hoped for. Big vibes that they replace the water heater and furnace. And score on the hardwood floors, vibes that they are in great condition. Good luck with it all!

the insurance people sound like assholes, though I supposed part of their job is to be assholes. It sucks mama.
Happy you could get some nicer flooring & sweet on the hardwood floors! Ours do need refinishing lol but I don't mind, they remind me of all the studios my mom had when she was fresh out of college. I wash them with the meth*d fl*or l*ve stuff & they have developed a beautiful shine. That stuff is magical.
Keep pushing them to replace the furnace & hot water heater! *vibes*
