Dude that was so cool to see your DH and your house, I am just sad about the circumstances.

My DH is a welder and he has been making bank welding down storm grates and welding shut power boxes on light poles because of people stealing them for scrap. I think steel scrap is up to like $300 a ton where it was about $50 - $100 not that long ago. I know copper and brass are worth a lot more which is why people are stealing pipe and even copper wiring. It is amazing what people will do to others. I hope that insurance covers all of your expenses and that you get the kitchen and flooring that a domestic goddess like yourself deserves.

By the way-- your DH looks like a big sweetie and a nice guy! I'd never seen photo of him. Plus I didn't know he was a plumber. Sigh. I wish I was married to a plumber. Life would be sooooo much easier, but I guess I just feel burned from the time - years ago now - MY sweetie tried to replace my toilet and I ended with no toilet for a whole weekend!

When you first posted, i told my DH and before i was even done with the story, he guessed it was the copper piping. I had never heard of this before but he said where he grew up it was somewhat common in vacant houses.
