Day 2: gluten, sugar, dairy free

Ok you notice caffeine is off. Yesterday was really hard and I realized it was because of the caffeine. I really need Go Juice (as my friend calls it) if I'm going to not eat the other three things and still take care of my kids well. It seemed like it was easy to avoid the others but silly to not drink my one little cup of coffee, especially since it's my only source of caffeine and it's not something I abuse or overuse. Dh & I even got in a little fight where he called my diet stupid, (bc I was so out of it I wanted him to watch the kids extra, and he was super tired from his night shift the night before.)

Food Today:
Breakfast: oatmeal with honey, cinnamon, and peaches. One plain coffee this morning; Ruta Maya organic coffee is so great it totally works plain for me.

Lunch (snacks between bfast & dinner): apple, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, potato chips. Juicer: carrot, apple, celery, beet juice.

Dinner will be: chicken breast, cucumbers tossed w lemon & mint, Punjabi-style potatoes & cauliflower.

I got a double jogging stroller off Craigslist yesterday and took the kids on the 25 minute walk to the park today in the 96F heat. It was awesome! A little hard to maneouver on the turns, but so smooth and seeming to drive itself. I have to fix the alignment bc it was pulling to the right too much. But a great workout encouraging fast walking! I'm gonna do this 2x/week. i feel great!

So far we're good. It helps (sort of) that I've been really really sick for the last 48 hours so I haven't wanted to eat anything! Not fair really. But dh is hanging in there, and he IS hungry.

Here's some of what we've eaten in the last two days: homemade chicken/ginger/cabbage soup (we always make this when we're sick). Steak, crispy almonds, millet mush (soaked overnight, cook for 40 minutes or more, add coconut milk, salt, nutmeg and stevia) scrambled eggs with zucchini, grilled asparagus tomato and zucchini, kombucha, kimchi, lacto fermented pickles, millet toast with butter (btw, Food for Life millet/rice bread is GF and doesn't have corn in it . . .) and some rice noodles cooked in chicken stock. That's most of it. I'm back to work tomorrow, and I'll have an appetite, so wish me luck!

Also, we found a GF, celiac-approved oatmeal, but it's outrageously expensive! So we only use it once a week.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's wrong with corn? Just curious. I love corn!

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. That would be too bad to be allergic to corn... much like wheat and peanuts, it's in everything! Good luck to you. And I'm really interested to keep reading about your gf experiment. I'm allergic to wheat and have been wheat-free for about a year now. Let me know if you need any advice as to what products or methods or anything to try. I back up a mean batch of gluten free brownies!

That Food For Life millet really has to grow on me. I've gotten spoiled with the other stuff that has corn. FFL is so dense!

FYI - oatmeal typically contains gluten as a form of contamination that happens during the process. I think it is mostly oats from America.

yah i read that about oatmeal, but it doesn't concern me much since i'm not dealing with a highly sensitive allergy. but it's nice to know there's an uncontaminated option out there.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing about the oatmeal. Mostly it's because of cross-contamination from machinery. However, Bob's Red Mill makes steel cut oats that they claim are gluten-free, though I have not tried them myself. McCann's Irish Oatmeal makes a quick oatmeal that IS gluten free.

I missed why you were cutting out the gluten. Are you allergic? Also, I can totally see why you dropped caffeine off the list! That's some hard core drug you're trying to quit! You'll need it to get through quitting the other stuff! LOL

Also with the gluten and oatmeal, I've read that the reason it is cross contaminated is because most farmers rotate their grain crops every season. So, the land that grows oats one season is growing wheat, barley, ect. in other seasons. I never noticed that about Bob's oatmeal! Kewl. Smiling
