The Sex Talk (Little Long)

Dragon Chic's boner blog made me feel very thankful for NOT being a boy/man this morning. I guess that dood didn't have a problem with moving is hardened junk all over, and I guess that could be considered...well, I dunno what to consider it, but I do agree that maybe maintaining your cover would've been a good idea Smiling

Anyway, I was thinking about the comment I laid down on that blog, stating I was thankful for being a woman so I wouldn't have to deal with all the boy stuff: erections, wet dreams, male masterbation, etc. Not fun subjects by any means, well at least not with my kiddos Eye-wink

Of course, with the twins turning 6 yesterday, it made me think even harder about it. These questions are just a few years away. Menstruation is, if the girls are like me, only 5 years away for my oldest. Granted, at this age, I know it is not age appropriate to bring up certain parts of adolescence yet, but my question is: when is a good time? Are there any books recommending ages, giving approaches, etc. ?

My children know where babies come from and this is how it was explained: daddies have special parts that can make a baby, and so do mommies. It takes a mommy and daddy to MAKE a baby, but anyone can be a family. When babies are made, the mommy is busy at work making all the baby parts. This takes about 9-10 months. Then, when the baby is ready, and he is big enough, the mommy has to help him out of her tummy. She can do this by pushing him out of her yoni or by getting him cut out of her tummy."

Granted, questions have been asked, because I have had them watching birthing shows with me. My friend videoed her birth (which was vag), so I think they've asked every question imaginable. They're quite curious about it, and I love that. It gets them excited for their new brother.

I dunno if I'm explaining this right, but they seem to be getting it. I just wonder when to bring up the REALLY hard stuff and HOW. I don't my kids walking into the 5th grade and getting their first view of the reproductive system, complete with gender separation, odd videos, awkward gym coaches. I'd my girls to know about periods by the time they're 10...I started getting my tits then. I started shaving my very hairy legs then. I was 5'3" in fifth grade for Chrissake! So YAY genetics for a making a woman-child then. DH was already carpeted with this massive amount of chest fur when he was 13. Back hair came later in his TEENS. I just think we're going to have some early-reproductive kids, and now, while they still trust me, I want them to learn. Just in an appropiate way, you know?

Just wondered how you Mamas have handled it so far...I figured it'd be quite interesting to read Smiling
