Sad day for our new house*EDIT*

Submitted by wifemotherslave on Sun, 05/25/2008 - 1:50pm.

Well it looks like they hung out in the house for awhile, but were not smart enought to start in a smart place, say like the basement. They started in the kitchen and cut the copper there, then they went to cut from the washer hook up and did not know that all the water was not shut off, cut those pipes and then water shot out at them, spraying the cabinets, ceiling and floor,( I have this stupid vision of someone being sprayed with water) They then must have freaked out and broke another window ( left a handprint!) And ran away. The police in fact have someone in mind, someone in the hood, an addict no less! Its weird though cause it looks like they tried to escape through the basement and had to break the lock on the door down there, but alas..haha no stairs, the previous owners never replaced the rotting stairwell, and so now there is none! According the the insurance company our policy is in effect, so we are having some damage repair people come out, but there is no adjuster avail until TUES, pinche holiday! It was cool watching the cops dust for finger prints. Seriously the people made off with only like $20 worth of copper, so again we are thinking druggies. Thanks for all the support mamas, today has been one of the worst days of my life. Hopefully I will get a new kitchen out of this ordeal.
Last night sommeone broke into our new house and stole the copper plumbing. They smashed up windows and the water ran all night long into the house. We don't know how much damage is done, but this is bad for poor people like us. I am so pissed, because they waited for the house to be vacant. We were there yesterday, cleaning and getting it ready.

Oh mama!! Sooo sorry, I so hope you get a grand new kitchen and everything is taken care of.
Although if it's any consolation (very small, I'm sure), my mom loved your jam!! I gave it to her Friday, she said it was very yummy. Hope you get to make tons more in your new kitchen (that I'm sure you'll get!!).

that they also steal copper wiring. And some unluky saps have been fried cutting into live wires. They find them dead at job sites.

Glad your insurance will kick in.

That is just insane. I'm so sorry. I realize copper is worth some money, but that is seriously so low.

Submitted by artistafeminista on Sun, 05/25/2008 - 2:36pm.

that is horrible. I don't understand why people steal from other people. if you've gotta steal, steal from big box, corrupt corporations, people. stealing from other people, especially poor people just keeps us all in the muck and divides us when we should be banding together and rising up against those that oppress us. that's my propaganda on that situation. someone once broke into my car and stole my cd player and I just remember thinking that if I could talk to them and tell them this I could feel better about it.

I hope you're able to recover from this. i'm so sorry.

I am SO SO sorry. That is so awful. Is your homeowner's insurance effective yet? I'd check into that first. Oh man, that really chaps my hide and makes me so sad. I'm sorry darlin'. I hope the damage is fixable and that you get everything squared away soon. Big hugs mama.

What? They stole your plumbing? I've never heard of anyone's plumbing being stolen before, that sucks! I bet they were planning on selling it for scrap. That's too bad that happened, here's a cyber hug: [[[HUG]]]. Did you have insurance or anything?

It's fairly common to steal copper for scrap. It sells for a rather high price, about 4$ per pound, if you can find someone shady to sell it to, but it's kinda strange for someone to steal your copper pipes. Usually that kind of thief targets larger, industrial sites where they can get large spools of copper wire.

Copper thiefs are almost always meth addicts. We've got several in our family, and they all know where the best copper can be found.

Submitted by Catmama on Sun, 05/25/2008 - 3:04pm.

.I was thinking the same thing. Sure, steal copper when it's on the side of the road in a construction site, eyc....but to go in and remove the pipes from the walls????

Meth addict plumber?
