oh fuck, we're fucked

friday was a more than a little stressful. i have felt stressed lately, home with all three girls while my husband is working and volunteering and fixing the house.
anyway our car failed inspection due to the old tires. on friday i spent our last dime on new tires.... went grocery shopping, cleaned the house, packed up the family and headed to our friend's house 3 hours away to celebrate her graduating from college. we were about 15 minutes from her house (at about 8:30pm) when our car died, as in shit the bed, as in, its time to make funeral arrangements.

oh fuck, we're fucked.

it makes me wish i hadnt filled up the tank, or spent over 400 bucks on new tires. it makes me wish i had taken the car to our usual mechanic last week, instead of trying to make our lives a little easier and going to the mechanic within walking distance to our house.

our car was towed to a lot, they will check and see if it is truly fucked. dont have money for the tow or for the repair. we rented a van and drove directly to work. (cant afford the rental) my family hung out all night while i distracted myself from the anxiety and worked.

over the next few days we'll watch the checks bounce high. the proposed economic stimulus could really help me out right now. it was due to arrive a week ago, but they are backed up. it was going to be the money we needed to finish the renovations on the last apartment so that we could get it rented out.

obviously, we have no money for a new car. i think we are ready to go carless. it is nice being in town and being able to walk and bike and ride the bus. it will be tricky getting myself to work in the middle of the woods. we'll see what happens with that.

deep breath...

damn. i'm with red on hating cars and money- esp when i didn't have much of either. at some point would you be into doing small commission pieces again- like the one you did for lucypinball? i know, like you need one more thing sucking your time...i'm betting you'd sell a schwap-load on etsy though...

sorry things are so rough right now.

I am sorry. I'll vibe that a miracle occurs that brings your car back from the dead.

I hope that works for you. It's a huge money saver if you can do it. Vibes on that. You know what? This too shall pass. You have so many awesome ideas, like the apartments, and things are going to turn around soon. I remember being penniless really well. What I noticed was that I got more and more focused on the minutae: fees, bad luck and I got more and more stressed. But time will pass, and you guys will get on your feet again.

Dude, I hate money and cars.

One thing about the stimulus we just found out was if you paid a fee to get your taxes done this year, you will be getting a paper check. So instead of getting ours on the 16th of May we will be getting ours July 4th. And we filed online through Turbo Tax.

ouch - when you least expect it and can least handle it, the car will fail. this i have learned. i have also learned that it eventually works out if that is any consolation. I would sell the tires....can you do that? maybe get at least 2/3 of what you paid back?

I'm so sorry! Hope you can get some $$$ for the tires, at least!!!! Vibes for something working out (like your check coming soon)!!! And I hope the carless thing works okay -- at least you won't be paying through both nostrils for gas this summer...I'm not really sure that's a good enough silver lining...but...
