mother's day should be every day, or at least once a month.

Saturday night I went out with friends to an art gallery then hung out at a local café. The art gallery threw me off, at first, causing me to feel like a fish out of water. Seeing people put together so nicely, having conversations with other adults that didn’t center around motherhood and holding little plastic cups of free wine was strangely foreign and refreshing. Can ya tell I'm a stay at home mom??? The first familiar face I ran into was an old acquaintance who helped me realize that I didn’t look as out of place as I was feeling. He caught me at a vulnerable moment when my awkwardness was being worn on my sleeve, thus coming straight out of my mouth.

“I bet its strange for you to see me here.”
“No, not really.” He said in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Oh, well it seems weird to me.”
And to that he imparted some simple wisdom, “Maybe it feels that way from the inside looking out, but I don’t see that.”
I got comfortable with the artsy-fartsyness of the place about 15 minutes after hearing this.

I don’t typically spend my valuable free time at a pretentious art opening but turns out that every-now-and-then, I should. The evening went by fast and held many conversations with new and old faces - and one particularly exciting new face at that. A friend (heh) of a friend, a man around my age, who met up with us at the café. He’s looking for a job as a something-some-kind-of-scientist. He was a funny man who had that Woody Allen charm and an equally appealing sense of humor. Anyone who knows me knows this type of character holds appeal to me. Thank you Sarah, for the fantasy. You knew exactly what you were doing when you invited him along. *smiling* Hey, every good marriage has an equally exciting fantasy life, as Hal would agree.

Sunday, Mother’s Day, was just perfect. I woke up to the usual coffee already made and a loving husband who wanted to cook me breakfast. The added surprise was this new laptop I’m typing on. Expect to see more writing as I now can write where-ever it is convenient to do so. Now watch me not write anything for a week.

Summer is upon us. Well, not in the technical sense, but as far as Florida is concerned.
