Any mamas with asthmatic kiddies?

Lily has asthma, pretty severe case, and I'm just wondering what, if any medications/treatments/homeopathic methods you mamas use. I am so uncomfortable dosing her up the way we have to and just thought I'd check here. Currently, she takes flovent twice a day (which I HATE giving her, but seeing her not breathing made me snap out of it), cingulair at night (yes, I know about the suicide side effects in adults), and Albuterol in an emergency. Thanks, mamas.

Ever since my 2 yr old was about 6 months old, we've been on some form of breathing treatments. Right now, he gest Pulmicort twice a day in the nebulizer, singulair granules with his food at night and, when he's got a cold, albuterol (or the less-nasty Xopenex) in the nebulizer 2-4x daily. I was asthmatic as a kid and my dh is as an adult so we're not surprised. Generally, I think we could back off the meds but our ped wanted to wait until spring. He's in daycare full time, which doesn't help. We ARE dairy-free (and never noticed any difference in his nasal allergies with it but he has other nasty dairy reactions) but we have a cat. Go figure. I'm hoping that, like me, he'll outgrow his asthma. How long have you been on singulair? I think I want to eliminate that one first!

Well here is something I know a little about! My one DS has asthma, I have severe asthma, my brother has asthma, and not to scare you but my mother died from asthmatic relate complications (but she smoked to make matters worse). I have had no success with any homeopaths for my son, my brother (whom I adopted after the death of our mother) or myself. Cingulair hasn't worked for any of us and we just take claritin OTC. We were all on flovent, which worked, but I just didn't like it and switched to Advair. The main thing is to get rid of all the triggers. This can sometimes be tough love. I had no carpet, curtains, or stuffed animals in my room growing up because theu harbor triggers, including chemicals that leach from the carpets. I had hypoallergetic mattress, pillows and covers. No inside pets, daily dusting with a damp cloth, no grass in the backyard. As i'm sure you know allergies and asmtha often go hand and hand and trigger each other. If i'm preaching to the choir, I apologize but if you have any more ?s feel free to email me. P.S we all use albuterol before bed, before heavy activities, and for attacks

no wool or down, no synthetic rugs, no cats in the bedroom, actually, nothing but the bed in the bedroom (no clothes or books bc they get dusty) - and I vacuum obsessively!

no advice but i feel for ya. i too, as you know, am in that position of not really wanting to give western meds but am doing it because it is working better than anything else i've tried. i'm really considering taking bella to a nature doctor (you know what i mean). hehe. good luck. and big hugs.

the fledgling has a lot of wheezing/coughing at night and after running hard or playing in the cold. But I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I've never gotten her formally evaluated for it. Instead I changed her diet (no more milk, and all her night-time wheezing is gone). And we do see a really good naturopath. Those treatments make a huge difference, but we can barely afford the office visits. I think for those remedies to really work you have to get an individual diagnosis - especially in younger kids. DH has the same kind of "asthma" that dd has, and has been untreated his whole life, my hope is that hers will never get worse then his is . . .
