chicken pox freakout part deux

Submitted by sylvia_p on Mon, 07/24/2006 - 2:22pm.

so i called the pediatrician about it and thet said sylvie is safe since she has my antibodies. phew.

the thing is, in my haste i'm not altogether sure if it is chicken pox. it's not in her armpits or back of the neck, but we gave her benadryl last night thinking that if it was an allergy that would lessen the breakout. i swear she has more now.

does it look like chicken pox to you?

chicken pox look like dew drops on a rose, a tiny raised blister to start. Has she been swimming in any lakes? It also looks alot like swimmers itch.
Here is a pretty good pic of chicken pox

But even alot of health professionals have a hard time telling for sure, I took one of my daughter to the er casue she had a strange rash and they told me she had chicken pox and years later when i was getting older dd vacinated as she hadn't had them we had her tested to see if she had indeed had them and her anitbody tests came back as a NO.

Let us know if you figure it out!

But you will know soon enough if they ARE.

If the ones that are raised pocks now blister over within the day and new ones pop up, then it's pretty for sure. We just had 4 kids go thru this (mine and 2 stepkids) and I think the benedryl's a really good idea. The one who didn't get it was a lot worse.

could be a couple different things tho. most viruses like this start on the trunk of the body and then move out to the extremities. is it itchy?

she says it's not itchy, but she just came up to me and said that some of them hurt.

i was researching online and it could be a bacterial infection from a hot tub, she was in my mom's hot tub on friday night. i'm just at a loss. i know it's probably poor parenting not to take her in to the pediatrician.

CAn you send these same pics to the doctor? They kinda prefer that chicken pox kids not come in, for the most part, but, maybe they can say yay or nay from the pics.

and if it is chicken pox yay for you - no required immunization!

if it was itchy it might be scabies.

maggie got hers at 12 mos. it was the first time i really regretted going forward with shots. i'm not sure if it was the MMR shot or the pox but my poor babe! it sucked. i guess being sick with it would be bad too. i just find it so strange that we all had chicken pox when we were kids and now kids wont get them anymore because of the shots.

The MMR & the Chicken Pox are potentially tough vaccines that should not be given at the same time. S had to wait a couple months between them here.

for the next baby i definitly make them space them out better. she had four shots that day so those were only two of them.
i feel like its the first time my pediatrician let me down.
live and learn i guess.
