70's nostalgia...d.k's response that mentioned her bro and the 70's got me with that wave of sense memory...you guys know, when smells and sounds and feeligns just wash over you like a bittersweet ocean wave? I was a little kid in the 70's, so it's all awash in that "stand my me" sepia tone... i'm thinking of the giant radio cabinet that my best friend's family had that housed a wicked 8 track player and turntable...listening illicitly to her big brother's kiss and rush albums...my knee socks and roller skates (practically a uniform), short shorts b/c that's all there were, feathered hair and bubble gum when it was really good...like fully leaded bubble yum... i had a series of david and shawn cassidy posters glued to my wall. i had serious little kid love for them both. i loved the hardy boys with this weird obsessive passion and would beg to skip church every week so i could watch the end of the episodes. i remember my babysitter who would sit at our kitchen counter and chain smoke and teach me how to make my hair in to "wings". she had dr. scholl's and bell bottoms and i thought she was jesus. my parents went out every saturday night so "betsey" was a big huge part of my life. all of my neighbors were total stoners (and yeah, i was too when i got just a wee bit bigger) so the smell of pot is part of my childhood memories. they are the dudes who taught me to smoke cigarettes at age 11. they were SO bad and SO dangerous to me in their tight fitting shirts...i wanted to marry them. i still kind of do deep down. they had a gang called "deadwood" which makes me giggle now but had me in awe back then. they were like the kids from "the outsiders" to me. gah! my childhood memories have me in a vice grip...any other oldies out there who have 70's memories? please share!

on ifc? the dude made it in to a regular movie too...it was called dogtown and zboys or something...it brought up a similar nostalgia...
all the things you guys are saying are so true!
well sistersu guess what.......
Dogtown IS my hometown and all (or most) the guys in the documentary were my friends.
Small world eh! I still see them (not all) becuase a lot of us still live in or near the same ol' beach hood. I will not admit to sleeping with any of them tho' but it may have happened!
.
aww
well tell 'em they touched my heart with their floppy hair and bad boy surfing and skateboarding. i really love a bad boy.
that's cool that you know those fellers.
aahh the 70's!
Well, I grew up on the beach side of the 70's, so we had the same stuff, only surfer mentality.
Long summer nights, Birkenstocks and wrap around dresses, shirts and skirts. Tube tops, baby doll tee's that had iron on tranfers with saying like "keep on trucking" or "Foxy Lady"
8 tracks of marvin gay.
lots of weed.
miniamal violence
Lots of unsafe sex, but there was no HIV.
Feathered hair LOL
SPANDEX!
(all these things range from early to late 70's)
I also cannot forget to mention The Bee Gees'
.
Hmm...
Off the top of my head: my Dorothy Hamil hair cut, Super Friends, The Laugh Olympics (cartoons), disco, Blondie, my Jackson 5 obsession which became a Michael Jackson obsession with "Off the Wall", when I was visiting my grandparents in (West - hehe) Germany over the summer - punk rockers, 45-records, Kristi McNichol, Jodi Foster, halter tops, Now and Laters, Judy Blume books, banana-seat bicycles, The Muppets and The Muppet Movie, Superman, Star Wars, rollerskating, Steve Martin, (fat) Elvis, oh gosh, I will think of a 1000 more things, I just know it!

How could I forget some of my very favorite things:
Elton John, Queen, McCartney and Wings, the movie "Flash Gordon" - I had a huge crush on Flash. Okay, I'm going to stop now!

dr scholl's..
my mom wore them everyday around the house-and dont forget the roach clips with the dangle feathers to accentuate your "wings".and the satin covers for your skates.i was little in the 70s but they are the fondest of my memories because the atmosphere seemed to change dramatically as soon as reagan got in office-i remember all of a sudden there just wasnt this freedom anymore that seemed to exist before.everything went from orange and pink flowers to navy stripes.from free to stifling.the older kids didnt seem to be so free in thier walking the streets at night, smoking weed etc.did you notice a dramatic change?maybe it's just the anti reagan in me that blames him, i was only 6.what do you think it was that spurred on conservatism as the national anthem of the boring 80's?
yes. regan ruined everything
sniff.
