post partum sex

Submitted by sylvia_p on Tue, 07/11/2006 - 6:03pm.

i was wondering. how many of you stuck to the no sex post partum for 6 weeks instructions?
i delivered vaginally. no tears, no episiotomy...i'm thinking everything is intact. my post partum ob check isn't until august(due to scheduling conflicts).
i was just curious.

2 kids & you want to have sex?!?!?! I would wait. I also had an easy birth, but my midwife didn't even wany me sitting up straight from laying down (I was supposed to roll to my side & slowly get up) b/c she went on & on about how much my body has just been through & that my muscles need a chance to heal, even though I felt great.

completely obliterated my sex drive but dh and i had sex after about 4 weeks. I had no tears or anything and it didn't hurt. I think you should wait until you are ready but I've also heard the advice to try before your check up so that you have the chance to discuss any problems with your doc.

if you're feeling it and want to, so the dr. is readily available to help address issues. Grain of salt, though.

Do what you feel is right for you. I took me four months to even get in the mood.

Student midwife here... 4 weeks is the best to allow for, healing, shrinkage, and for your cervix to firm up and close good and tight. I too wanted to get it on early.. In fact even with 2 stitches from a small tear DH had to fight me off with a stick at around 5 days PP... lol

When I had my episiotomy with my first, I still didn't want to be touched at six weeks (dh was not appreciative of this.)

With my second and third, I had no episiotomy but some tearing, but it healed so quickly that I was back on board pretty quickly. Can't remember how long.

With two and three, my midwives told me, "Whenever you're comfortable with it," which was nice, because dh heard it, and didn't do the, "But you've had six weeks! You have to be ready!" thing. (He's much better these days, but back then he was young and constantly horny, and it showed.)

FAX is grossed out by vaginas(yes, he's in the closet), so i had to get him drunk to do it with me. but i was ready to go at about 3 weeks.

I can't answer. I had an episiotomy and was still in a lot of pain at 7-8 weeks postpartum. I'll do whatever I can to avoid one next time.

2 weeks. sad but true, same for me, vaginal delivery just a small tear, but it is very very easy to get pregnant so if you don't wish to be, be CAREFUL!!!

i also delivered vaginally and had no tears or episiotomy, and my midwife told me to wait 4 weeks. but still, we cheated and did it after about 3 weeks. it didn't feel very good though. i think i could count on my fingers the # of times we've had sex in the last 2 years. haha.

I think we waited all of 3 weeks....baaad mommy. But I did end up having some problems after about 4 weeks and we stopped again for about month. Not sure if it was related to having sex that early or not.

I seriously wanted to jump my man's bones about 4 hours after giving birth, I dunno if it was a hormone swell after not wanting much nookie the last three months of my pregnancy or what but I totally was MAD horny. It was kind of frightening. Laughing out loud We actually did become intimate within a day or two but didn't have penetration until about three weeks I think. man was that hard to wait for (no pun intended). Sticking out tongue

it is so funny, because we went about a month before i had her and seriously two days later we could barely keep our hands off of each other.
i just wish the sporadic lochia discharge would end. i'll go about two days with nothing and then i'll be out shopping and a small trickle of fluid comes out. it's lovely.

5 1/2 weeks here, both times. But we still have to be careful of certain positions, things are still a bit sore down there!
