Lately on NPR there have been a lot of buzzing about this new media form, the blog. This is my first blog and I am glad to have it in such a great community. Throughout my pregnancy I depended on the internet for my sanity. I will admit that I got a bit sucked into one of the mainstream message board communities filled with women who were having their kids the same month as me. That was basically it on what we had in common. We meaning me and them. The rest of the gals at that site were into things that couldn't have been more foreign to me if I had been from a dusty cave on the moon. Yet here on the hipmama site I saw people like me sharing the vision of a world void of "parenting styles" and filled with support for each other.

It makes me a bit ill to think that across the country, people transformed into shoppers and became "door-breakers" at six o'clock this morning. While I was dreaming of axe-murders, alligators, and invisibility, poor clerks were waking up in the moonlight so that shoppers could gain that since of satisfaction over the stores, leaving with full shopping bags and debt and smugly thinking "sucker" towards the department stores for being so stupid as to hold an after-Thanksgiving day sale. I worked at the mall one year in a coffee shop on this same particular shopping day. It was my first and last day.
