Anti-Racism sites

Hi mamas,

Sorry I've been so lurky for so long... life is just too busy to do more than check in right now.
BUT
I was trying to find some of the anti-racism sites that I have been to from links that some of you have posted - I swore I had some bookmarked but I think I lost them with my new computer transfer. Can someone repost any links you've got? There is one really great one that I can't even remember the name to...

A co-worker is having a baby soon and they struggle with lots of passive aggressive racism as well as other form of discrimination from certain family members. This baby is their first and they asked if I could share some sites with them - and now I can't find them!

Thanks in advance mamas!

talk about weight and body image

Hi mamas... I have been a lurker lately for lots of reasons not important to this post. However, one of the things that I have been working hard on is to get my body back in shape... and I'm ready to talk about it with someone and I don't really want to talk about it with IRL friends, so I figured it was time to post...

Survey time!

I noticed the blog about low activity on this site and it made me realize that I have been lurking for a while now. So I decided to post something. And since I don't really feel like actually talking about what I've been up to, I decided that I hadn't seen a survey on here for a while and it was time. So here ya go, have fun reading all of the answers - don't be shy lurkers!

doing my taxes - question

Why is my tax return so small this year? I claim two kids... someone please tell me that the stimulus check that we received wasn't taken out of our 2008 tax return... was it?? How did I not realize that if it was?

mamas of older boys - tell me about your "sex" talks

My partner mentioned to me the other day that my 11yo ds is starting to get curious. Now, we are not shy in this house. If he walks in on me while I'm getting dressed, showered, etc, it's kinda just whatever, no big deal - he doesn't think twice about it. We are open about things but allow room and respect for privacy. I answer questions that I am asked and explain things that I think they should know about, but I'm thinking it might be time to sit down and have a real talk with my son.

update from a sick mama, my ramblings and a ho

Hi mamas... I haven't been around much for whatever reason - I've been checking in here and there though Smile

We are sick and it's making me crazy! Yesterday was my only day off to actually stay home and attempt to heal, but anyone with sick kids knows that taking care of themselves is not the priority... I feel like I'm getting better, but with the inability to actually rest (sick toddler all morning then work from 1pm to 9pm), I don't think it's happening as fast as it could.

Trouble the Water

Anybody seen/heard of this documentary?
http://troublethewaterfilm.com/

This is in the email that I received from color of change, and I want to go see this film tomorrow on my day off since it is playing in our small town theater... hopefully the more people that see it in the small theaters will help influence it to be played in the larger ones...
Ok, the email:

Three years after Katrina, few of us have a real understanding of the first-hand experiences of survivors. Starting today, that could change.

Seriously,

this is the cutest photo ever:

Eve Ensler on Palin

DRILL, DRILL, DRILL
by Eve Ensler

I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was
a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of
drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a
particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or
their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have
never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that
they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar
bears.

sunday morning blog

call it my brain puke, call it my 10... here are my thoughts:

okay, I give in... looking for an american girl doll

I have to just accept that my kids aren't going to be just like me in my likes/dislikes. I need to just say that I really don't like toys like american girl dolls - you know, the blond hair blue eyed dolls (I know there are others) that cost over $100 and only the kids whose parents have money get to own them. Well, my girl wants one so bad and I have decided to find a way to get her one. What can I say, she is my only little girl...

my 10! it's been a while, but I need it today.

Here are the 10 good things about the moment:

1. my hair. I'm digging it right now - I never wear it down but it's down and it feels good!

2. quiet toddler. It probably means poop in the diaper, but at least I have a moment to myself and my coffee and my laptop. Poop can always wait.

My list of good things

I have been feeling so stressed and crappy about the cost of things and my current lack of money. I am so nervous that we won't be able to afford to go on the family trip that I've had planned out and set up for since the winter. It will be our first real vacation that doesn't involve visiting or going somewhere with grandparents. I am proud to have pulled it off, but damn I hope we can go.

Anyhow, I have been super conscious of cost and waste but I'm still not willing to compromise with quality. Yes, even with the credit card companies calling me from private numbers on Sundays...

lame-o stuff that no one wants to read about (some good too)

cause it's not really exciting or totally positive, but I'll try...

Music!

I'm ready to listen to something different so tell me what you think I should check out. I'm open to most music but not interested in slow and depressing, country or opera.
Thanks in advance!

Yogurt recall

I just saw this recall for stonyfield farm blueberry yogurt, for anyone interested:

the doctor visit

I took ds2 to the doctors for a check up yesterday. I'm not sure why I did this, but I think my logic was that if anything were to happen and he were to get sick, they would have (somewhat of) a record of his health. His first visit was when he was 1 week old, and his second was yesterday. He is 14 months old. I don't have much faith in doctors, especially since all of my children are very healthy and I don't really see any need for doctors until the possible day that they might not be so healthy any more.

the cost of food

Someone sent me this article at work today and I wanted to pass it on: http://tinyurl.com/29wd5z
It is about something that has been happening but people are only just realizing - the cost of food is going up and up. I deal with this everyday at work and I wish more people could read this article for a little perspective.

Dinner blog

Hi everyone. I've decided that I want to keep track of what I make for dinner so that I can make sure that I don't fall into the "I don't know what to make for dinner" rut.

Staph infections

Anyone know of any natural (or just non antibiotic) remedies that could work on a diaper rash turned staph infection?

What are you eating for dinner?

Here is our green St. Paddy's dinner from tonight:
