S turned two at the end of April. She has been singing songs and reciting whole nursery rhymes for a little while. Lately, she has also been sitting down at her keyboard or her xylaphone and she just starts "playing" them while she sings along.

She can also pick out a tune she knows even when just the music or hears the refrain. For instance, we were driving in the car and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" was on the radio as background music for a commercial and she pointed it out to me.

Now, I should say that I appreciate music but am not "musical" per se. I played the trumpet in grade school/junior high but I picked it purely because I love jazz and I figured how hard could something with three keys be?

We're back - we arrived home about midnight last night. It was four fun sun-filled days. We did a lot of sleeping, reading, eating and lounging. We also swam in the ocean everyday. The vacation was too short but it was nice to recharge the batteries a bit; it was nice to live our lives on a whim for a few days.

S did wonderfully at my mom's house. She seemed very happy to see me this morning but wasn't overly clingy.

My favorite thing on the trip? Walking on the beach and playing in the surf. We found a pretty cool sandbar down the beach from our hotel and the sand was as soft as sugar.

- My husband and I finally agreed who would get custody of S should something happen to the both of us. My parents. Yes, I have issues with this decision but if feels like the best decision right now. Our siblings are too unstable. My best friends is in a bad marriage. And on and on... it really makes you evaluate the people in your life when you are viewing them as potential parents for your child.

- We leave for vacation on Friday morning. We are leaving S with my folks. I am feeling a wee bit bad for being this excited about a break from her. I am sure I will have other more sad feelings about that as our departure approaches.

I started the week with one of these and figured it would be a good way to end it, too.

1. For the first time since I have filed a joint tax return (both times that I have been married) I am not gonna pay in for taxes. Usually it is me who pays in quarterly while they do nothing and then we end paying in a buttload of $ at the end of the year which they never had the discipline to save from their earnings.

2. The return is not huge but my husband said that I can have it all to pay me back for the last two years. It isn't like I will go wild with the $ but it will be nice to have a little float in the budget.

Okay - I don't need the vibes, but my car does.

I dropped it off because it was making a strange sound this morning and they guy said it might be my engine! WTF? It only has 60,000 miles on it and I take really good care of it! Arrrrgggh.

Edit: Something called a "cluth fan" so it is not the engine. Yay! I still wasn't anticipating car repairs this month but it isn't too expensive of a fix.
